2022 Charles Audoin Marsannay Clos du Roy rouge Magnum

Wow….this has a remarkably intense and concentrated aromatic range of gorgeous red fruits and spice; I could smell this all day. In the mouth it proves to be a textbook example of power without weight, proving positively filigree, with long sustain of red fruits, florals, and minerality. To my taste, this is class in a glass, and even better than Allan’s tank sample review below would lead one to believe….a little * awarded here.

“Here a discreet application of wood surrounds the fresh, cool and restrained red and dark pinot fruit where a floral top note adds a touch of elegance. The more concentrated medium weight flavors possess excellent intensity while the moderately firm and youthfully austere finish flashes more evident minerality on the balanced and sneaky long finish. This is built to repay up to a decade of keeping but could reasonably be approached after 5 years. (90-93)/2030+” Allen Meadows ————> thingy, meaning, “particularly outstanding for their respective appellations and especially merit your attention”

“The 2022 Marsannay Clos du Roy has admirable transparency on the nose with nicely focused, vibrant scents of red cherry and crushed strawberry. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, very good concentration and lightly spiced darker fruit toward the Gevrey-like finish. Bravo. This is a great Clos du Roy.” 91-93 Neil Martin

“Offering up aromas of cherries, raspberries, rose petals and dark chocolate, Audoin’s 2022 Marsannay Clos du Roy is medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, with bright acids and a succulent, charming profile.” 90-92 William Kelley
