Description

The les Pommards is a perennial value play superstar, from a very limestone dominant site that is N facing (read cooler); it is always of the slowest to evolve in the cellar, and is a good example of why I think Allen’s regular June tasting is too early in the wines’ evolution. Bottled literally last week, the wine showed plain awesome, with a sense of tension and explosiveness between its moderately rich but cooler-than-exotic fruit character and undeniably intense mouthwatering limestone saltiness. This was one of the most impressive wines that I tasted from anyone on Saturday. A resoundingly clear little * awarded here. This bottling has garnered quite a steady following from white Burgundy value hounds, and this year’s will only reinforce such loyalty/appreciation. Get this if you know it, and get this if you don’t…….you will surely join the fan club if it is new to you……

“(from vines situated in Davayé, planted in rocky, high limestone content soil which abuts the Pouilly-Fuissé vineyard of Le Pommard on the edge of Vergisson and Solutré). Pungent aromas of reduction and secondary fermentation nuances renders the nose impossible to assess and the fermentation character is present on the palate as well. While there’s no reason this should not properly clean up, it’s not in a condition to be evaluated. Not Rated.” Allen Meadows
