Regularly a pet favorite of mine and an untouchable value play in the world of white Burgundy, this hails from a stone’s throw above the rockhead delight Pouilly Fuissé 1er cru Sur la Roche. It always has a solid interplay of Chardonnay flavor/aroma food groups with the salty limestone driven underpinnings giving it overperforming complexity and dimension. In the dry and hot 2022 vintage, both its altitude and limestone stoniness give it a good sense of freshness and length, its finish prolonged moreso by its sense of saltiness than acidity, in gentle cloudlike expansive nature. Like all things Barraud in all years, it is faithful representation of its archetypal character, in the spirit of the vintage. Me likey, I gave this one a little *.

“(this vineyard abuts the Pouilly-Fuissé vineyard of La Roche). A subtle if perceptible trace of wood surrounds the ripe aromas of pear liqueur, acacia blossom and a similar hint of citrus confit. The medium weight flavors are rich to the point of opulence while delivering good if not special depth and persistence on the balanced finale. This too should drink well young.
