Description
This was the first Kabinett served, and man oh man, what class in a glass. My note: “An absolute caress of a wine, silky/gossamer in texture, with beautiful balance between its fruit/acidity. Silky and salty….outrageously delicious.” I think that this is the “sleeper” in the range, simply because people don’t know the Grafenberg, which also lies at the southern limit of Piesport. It may be the most elegant of all of the ’21 Kabinetts in its overall sense of harmony, at least on the day that I tasted it. A little * awarded here. 11.4 g/L acidity for you geeks out there.
“The 2021er Piesporter Grafenberg Riesling Kabinett is made from fruit picked at 82° Oechsle and was fermented down to fruity-styled levels of residual sugar (48 g/l). The wine offers a beautiful nose still marked by residual scents from its spontaneous fermentation. These only gradually give way to superb notes of ginger, pear, grapefruit, floral elements, and a hint of cassis. The wine proves beautifully playful on the palate and leaves a superbly fresh and refined feel in the finish. The aftertaste is about citrusy fruits and minerals. This is a beautiful Kabinett in the making. 2031-2051” 92 MFW
