This is usually his most popular/highest scoring Kabinett, from the upper reaches of the Juffer hillside. It is super mouth filling in its broader, spherically expansive sense of more exotic fruits and accompanying minerality. The contrast between the more linear Wehelener and the broader/spherically expansive Juffer is terrific. In 2020, this was his top scoring Kabinett (see below). Stefan’s father always said that the Juffer wines need a year+ to show well, that they are rarely early flatterers. On the day that I tasted it in June, it was very promising, but was still settling in. I trust Stefan when he tells me that this one will make its way, that it has all that it needs to strut its stuff in time…..
“The 2021er Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Kabinett is made from fruit picked at 80° Oechsle and was fermented down to barely fruity-styled levels ofresidual sugar (45 g/l). It offers a very nice nose of minty herbs, fine spices, and minerals, all immersed in citrusy fruits. The wine proves beautifully light-footed and precise on the palate and leaves a firm and delineated feel of fruits, ginger, and spices in the long finish. The aftertaste vibrates with energy. 2031-2051” 93 MFW
