Description
The flagship of the estate, from very well placed old vines, this always performs a bit like a baby Bonnes Mares. In its sense of multifaceted complexity, with all elements fruit/floral/mineral/spice present, intense, and harmonized, this once again takes the cake to me….outstanding. A little * awarded here.
“(from vines planted in 1947). A discreet application of wood sets off attractively layered aromas of plum, earth, floral nuances and subtle spice hints. There is lovely richness and punch to the well-detailed mineral-inflected flavors that possess a mouth coating and mildly austere finish that delivers excellent persistence. This is more powerful if less refined than the Fuées that also offers fine development potential. (91-93)/2033+” Allen Meadows ————> thingy, meaning, “particularly outstanding for their respective appellations and especially merit your attention”.
“A deeper crimson purple, and definitely a greater weight of fruit on the nose. A burst of fruit on the attack, going through to the back of the palate, a little orange rind note alongside the deep red berry fruit, good acidity, well managed tannins and persistent. Drink from 2026-2033. Tasted: December 2022” 91-94 Jasper Morris “Four Star Wine”
“Produced from a plot planted in 1947 that’s the source for the domaine’s sélection massale, the superb 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers Vieilles Vignes wafts from the glass with notes of cherries, raspberries, candied peel, dried flowers, rose petal and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and velvety, with rich structuring tannins, excellent concentration and succulent acids. As usual, it’s the domaine’s finest wine.” 93 William Kelley for the 2017, NOT THE 2021 OFFERED HERE
