2021 Michel Mallard Ladoix Clos Royer rouge

2021 Michel Mallard Ladoix Clos Royer rouge

Michel explains this one as friendly and easy, accessible with its generous roundness of texture, with fruit, savory, spice and florals offering a full and open knit experience. For your everyday yum yum value hound purposes, this is a winner.

“A much more deeply pitched nose features notes of plum, pungent earth and soft violet scents. There is a velvety, even suave texture to the caressing and voluminous medium weight flavors that possess a mouth coating finish. This too should drink well after only a year or two of bottle age if that’s your preference. (88-90)/2019+” Allan Meadows

I didn’t get to taste this in bottle, but it sounds like a terrific example of Ladoix’s balance of fruit, earthiness, structure, and minerality, at a tariff that is pretty damn good on the world stage….

“The 2019 Ladoix Le Clos Royer Rouge has a fragrant blackberry and raspberry bouquet, well defined and focused, touches of crushed stone permeating the fruit. The palate is medium bodied with a slightly chalky texture, with a fine bead of acidity and a slightly briny finish. Classy, but quite serious.” 90-92 Neil Martin

“The 2021 Ladoix Le Clos Royer Rouge opens in the glass with aromas of red berries, cherries and sweet spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample, fleshy and seamless, it’s a charming, gourmand red from this underrated appellation.” 89-91 William Kelley

“A much more deeply pitched nose presents notes of plum, dark cherry, forest floor and soft earth. There is once again fine mid-palate density to the vibrant and relatively powerful flavors that terminate in a dusty and focused if not really austere finale that could also use better depth. (88-91)/2028+” Allen Meadows
