2021 Marchand Tawse Morey Saint Denis villages Rue de Vergy

This has been a personal pet favorite bottling for years, from the cooler combe influenced white soils. This is again one of the single lieu dit villages level bottlings that I have always found to offer particularly overachieving substance/distilled character, which the 2021 very much offers again. Its sense of salinity/minerality, and vertical rising red fruits and spice is pretty much architypal for this site. Plain delicious, and dynamic.

“Maison. 60% whole bunch vinification and 20% new wood, one new barrel in five. Mid crimson colour. A very pretty bouquet, wild flowers with a bit of blood orange. Quite pure, racy and with good length, without filling the mouth massively. True to type. Drink from 2025-2029. Tasted: November 2022.” 90-92 Jasper Morris “Four Star” wine

“A more overtly floral-suffused nose freely reveals airy, even perfumed, red berry fruit and discreet spice wisps. The delicious, intense and vibrant middleweight flavors possess a sophisticated mouthfeel as the supporting tannins are dense but fine, all wrapped in a delicious and lingering finish. This is also quite good and worth considering. (89-91)/2027+” Allen Meadows ———> “particularly outstanding for their respective appellations and especially merit your attention”
