Description
See my note below for the Clos Saint Denis…..this is a knockout, every year……if you’ve got it , good for you….!
“A highly attractive nose combines notes of both red and black cherry with lovely violet and newly turned earth nuances. There is a sophisticated mouthfeel to the acceptably concentrated yet still powerful broad-shouldered flavors that possess outstanding length as the youthfully austere finale where the only nit is a touch of warmth. (91-94)/2033+” Allen Meadows
“One new barrel, 25% whole bunch. Unlike the Clos St-Denis, there is no sign of the barrel maker here. Drier and tenser with good acidity, building to the back. The grapes may not have achieved full ripeness, as there is a touch of rhubarb with the raspberry. Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted: November 2022.” 92-94 Jasper Morris
“The 2021 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru matured entirely in new oak. It has a bit more brightness than the Clos Saint Denis, the oak is better assimilated at this point. The palate medium-bodied with firm tannins, a sprinkling of white pepper, gentle grip with good substance on the finish. I’d just like to see a bit more flair.” 92-94 Neil Martin
