Description
Cerasuolo di Vittoria an ancient red wine appellation, with an interesting history dating back to the 3rd century BC (google it)!; it is in fact the only DOCG in all of Sicily. From a blend of roughly 50/50 Nero d’Avola and Frappato vinified uniquely in stainless steel after a short maceration before being bottled after 1 year, this is their workhorse Cerasuolo, offering everyday gluglu bistro delight à la the Rossojbleo. This is the bottling that one commonly finds in the US market, not to be confused with its “big brother” offered next in line….This should fall into the everyday value hound house red wine category and then some…..13.5% alcohol here. From their website:
“The Stidda vineyard extends over circa one hectare in Chiaramonte Gulfi, at an altitude of 420 m above sea level and has a limited gradient of 3% with exposure to the west. There is a temperate, Mediterranean, climate with significant ranges in temperature. The soil is calcareous and clayey. There is a planting density of 8300 vines per hectare, trained according to the espalier method. The non-irrigated vineyard yields no more than 50 quintals per hectare.”
“The 2019 Cerasuolo di Vittoria is lifted, presenting a pure display of sweet violets, black cherries and hints of wet stone. It impresses further with silky textures that envelop the palate in bright red and blue fruits, along with a refreshing wave of juicy acidity. Hints of spiced orange and inner florals linger long through the lightly structured finale. This is an equal-parts blend of Nero d’Avola and Frappato that is aimed at immediate satisfaction, but in a nicely balanced style.” 90 Eric Guido of Vinous for the 2019, NOT THE 2021 OFFERED HERE
