2021 Georges Glantenay Volnay 1er Robardelle

2021 Georges Glantenay Volnay 1er Robardelle

This is the inaugural bottling of the rarely seen Robardelle 1er cru, a site that the Glantenays had leased long term, and took back starting in 2021; their portion is planted N/S. Not a bad first shot…! This is a deep wine with a certain textural plushness, turning nicely weightless by its well integrated acidity. This is a mighty impressive first shot, and is distinct in the range of 1er crus. Man, do I love me some diversity……

“(from a .36 ha holding; 2021 is the first vintage). A discreet application of wood can be found on the aromas of cool dark cherry and raspberry that are laced with pretty spice wisps. There is very good richness to the generous and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that possess good persistence. This offers a completely different expression compared to the Ronceret as this is seductive and rich if notably less precise and chiseled. A qualitative choice. (89-92)/2028+” Allen Meadows

“A new wine for the domaine this year – the vines were out on contract elsewhere previously. The rows run north-south so both sides see the sun for part of the day. Medium deep crimson-purple. Plenty of red fruit on the nose, strawberry and ripe raspberry. Fills the mouth well, with a light oakiness behind. Good length. Well done Drink from 2026-2031. Tasted: October 2022.” 90-92 Jasper Morris “Four Star” wine
