Description

This bottling is what I (and the Glantenays) consider to be their flagship bottling, from a site that enjoys little prestige, yet a ton of potential. They own a large chunk of it, and thus can choose to select the very best for their 1er cru. Its sense of limestone minerality is the most intense in the range that when combined with the signature Volnay food groups of violets and fruit make this a knockout complete wine. This year’s Brouillards includes 10% vendange integrale, a first time expansion of the technique that Guillaume has championed for his Chambolle Musigny 1er Feusselottes. This is where the whole bunches are included directly into the barrel for fermentation, using a special barrel with a glass panel at one end that can be removed. I think that the 2021 is a knockout, reference point example, once again, particularly for those who prefer mineral intensity in their wines…..a little * awarded here.

“from a 1.10 ha holding). Pretty aromas of kirsch and cool black cherries are also trimmed in just enough wood to notice. Exuberantly energetic middleweight flavors exude an almost pungent minerality on the firm, precise and balanced finish. This mildly austere effort isn’t super-dense but I very much like the delivery.
