2021 Georges Glantenay Pommard 1er Rugiens Hauts

A theme on broken record repeat, this is once again a reference point worthy example from a .21 hectare parcel of 70+ year old vines……they only had a few magnums of this left, so I hesitated not in asking Sarah to set them aside for us……there are ’18s and ’19s in 750 below……Rugiens is, in my humble opinion, is the clearest candidate for the nomination for a Grand cru from Pommard, as its sense of weightless dynamism can be the stuff of inimitable power-without-weight Burgundy dreams…..

Minuscule quantities, nothing to talk about here…..

“(from a .22 ha holding). Once again a discreet dollop of wood sets off the elegant and super-fresh essence of various red berries, soft spice, earth and a floral top note. The wonderfully refined and polished yet decidedly powerful and tautly muscular flavors exude evident minerality on the focused, long and markedly austere finale. This is compact and very tightly wound at present and I would recommend not touching a bottle for at least 5 years. (90-92)/2031+” Allen Meadows

“Mid crimson. The nose is friendly in the style of upper Rugiens rather than the greater opulence and depth of the lower part. Opens out quite well on the palate with a good juiciness and some additional persistence. The finish is harmonious with tannins and acidity fully integrated in the fruit. Drink from 2027-2033. Tasted: October 2022.” 90-92 Jasper Morris
