A signature bottling for the house, from a sizeable holding there. Always terribly complete between all of its basic food groups of things floral/fruit/mineral/structural, this is a knockout complete bottling, once again illustrating why so many people prize the Clos des Chênes as one of the noblest 1er crus in Volnay. A little * awarded here.
“(from a large 1 ha holding). More deeply pitched and restrained aromas include those of plum, violet, clove and anise. The more robust, muscular and denser medium-bodied flavors deliver excellent persistence on the more structured and powerful finish. As is virtually always the case with Clos des Chênes, this is going to need at least a few years of patience and should be capable of rewarding a decade plus. (91-93)/2031+ ” Allen Meadows ———–> “particularly outstanding for their respective appellations and especially merit your attention”
“Made from 50 and 80 year old vines. Mid crimson, with not so much showing on the nose at first. The class shows more on the palate, raspberry leading the cherry notes, a little firmer at the finish, slightly darker fruit, with good persistence. Drink from 2027-2033. Tasted: October 2022” 90-93 Jasper Morris
