Whereas in the frost affected 2016 vintage, Cyril blended what tiny quantities of his lieu dit Marsannays into a single impressive super cuvée honoring daughter Charlie’s arrival, he has chosen to rename his “regular” Marsannay villages blanc after Charlie for now and forever forward, mirroring the Marsannay villages rouge named after his ancestor Marie Ragonneau. This ’18 proved to be an absolute charmer in its blend of moderately dense ripe citrus fruit and vibrant florals, finishing with an excellent sense of freshness and poise. What more could one ask for in an everyday but serious villages wine?
“The 2019 Marsannay Cuvée Charlie Blanc is lovely, offering up aromas of crisp orchard and stone fruit complemented by hints of nutmeg and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, textural and fleshy, it’s rich but chiseled, with tangy acids and a mouthwatering finish.” 90-92 William Kelley
