Wow….this has a remarkably intense and concentrated aromatic range of gorgeous red fruits and spice; I could smell this all day. In the mouth it proves to be a textbook example of power without weight, proving positively filigree, with long sustain of red fruits, florals, and minerality. To my taste, this is class in a glass, and even better than Allan’s tank sample review below would lead one to believe….a little * awarded here.
“The 2019 Marsannay Clos du Roy offers up aromas of cherries and wild berries, complemented by hints of wintergreen, warm spices, peonies and raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, lively and concentrated, with an enveloping core of fruit, velvety tannins and lively acids, it will offer a broad drinking window.” 90-92 William Kelley for the 2019, NOT THE 2021 OFFERED HERE
“Moderate reduction is sufficient to render the nose difficult to assess. More interesting are the racy and strikingly fresh middleweight flavors that exude an almost palpable minerality on the firmly austere and compact but solidly persistent finish. This makes it abundantly clear that at least some patience is in order. (88-90)/2029+” Allen Meadows
