2021 Castro Ventosa Mencia Bierzo Villegas

2021 Castro Ventosa Mencia Bierzo Villegas

From the low yielding sandy soiled site where Raúl chose to build his home where he now lives with his wife and two children, this one sounds like my cup of tea and then some. Saying that it has just 13% alcohol and “gravitates more towards Burgundy” is like music to my ears….This is the second vineyard harvested, just after the Cova de la Raposa on the first day of harvest. What else can I say by this point…you’re either into it or not…..I am PSYCHED about this one……Just 14 6pks in total of this wine came to America, fwiw, so get it while the gettin’ is good……

“There’s a big jump between the 2020 and the 2021 Valtuille Villegas, and this wine feels very harmonious and balanced, with moderate ripeness and alcohol and is very aromatic, perfumed, deep and complex. It has 13.06% alcohol with balancing acidity and is very cleanand delineated, from one of the sandiest plots in Valtuille. This is one of the most elegant and perfumed wines from 2021—super balanced and layered. This is the finest vintage for this wine and my overall favorite wine from the range I tasted from Castro Ventosa this time. Amazing juice, very Burgundian and elegant. 1,300 bottles were filled in March 2023.” 99 Luis Gutierrez
