Description

Agathe is a self-professed Sylvaner lover at heart, having snacked on the juicy grapes without letup as a child.  She also happens to make some of the best in all of Alsace.  The Lutzeltal is a lieu dit in the SE corner of the Strangenberg colline with well draining yellow sandstone and limestone soils.  As a result, its grapes are always small and quite concentrated in flavor.  This year’s Sylvaner is plain gorgeous, super juicy and aromatic on both white florals and a faint hint of clove, then in the mouth deliciously juicy, only picking up greater tonic freshness with air.  No matter how you slice it, this stuff is delicious, and a noteworthy example of the underappreciated charms and nobility of Alsatian Sylvaner at its best.   A little * awarded here.  It is unfortunately super limited……
“Pale golden-tinged straw-yellow. Canned pineapple, tangerine and very ripe pear on the sexy, showy nose. Then juicy, penetrating and vibrant, with sweet (11 g/L r.s.) but lively (5.6 g/L total acidity) flavors of tropical fruit and ripe pear. Finishes long, ripe and round. Outstanding Sylvaner from one of the recognized masters of the variety.” 92 Ian D’Agata for the 2017, NOT THE 2021 OFFERED HERE.
