Description

Weeeelllll, Alex describes his Alte Reben Auslese as basically a baby-Beerenauslese, regularly with higher amounts of botrytis that are picked out specifically for that style. It is consistently pretty freakin’ incredible, scoring 96 points in Mosel Fine Wines in each of the past three vintages, and made in tiny tiny quantities of some 500L-1000L per year. After I tasted this, I asked him to reserve a whole bunch, as it is effortlessly crushable, impossibly balanced, pure class, and just magically delicious. There are even some 750s this year, so folks, i’m tellin’ ‘ya, if this is a style that you prize whatsoever, it doesn’t get better than this, regardless of price…! What a glorious Apotheke delight!!! A little * awarded here.

“The 2021er Trittenheimer Apotheke Riesling Auslese Alte Reben was made from early harvested and 30-40% botrytized fruit at 105° Oechsle on 50-100-year-old vines in the terraced Vogelsang Terrassen, Mockenlay, Jungheld, Kaulsbohr, and Laurentiusberg parts of the vineyard and was fermented to noble-sweet levels of residual sugar (108 g/l). It reveals a captivating and superbly complex nose of candied grapefruit, candy floss, pineapple, passion fruit, almond cream, baked spices, cherry, and violet. The wine shows great concentration and complexity on the palate, but also at the same time it is almost weightless and remarkably airy. The finish is already superbly long and focused, but still slightly on the sweet side for the moment. It is at least a decade away from its best and will then prove a gorgeous Auslese. 2031-2051+” 96 MFW
