Description
This is usually his most popular/highest scoring Kabinett, from the upper reaches of the Juffer hillside. It is super mouth filling in its broader, spherically expansive sense of more exotic fruits and accompanying minerality. The contrast between the more linear Wehelener and the broader/spherically expansive Juffer is terrific. In 2020, this was his top scoring Kabinett (see below). Stefan’s father always said that the Juffer wines need a year+ to show well, that they are rarely early flatterers. On the day that I tasted it in June, it was very promising, but was still settling in. I trust Stefan when he tells me that this one will make its way, that it has all that it needs to strut its stuff in time…..
“A very special Kabinett that’s so delicate and silky that, for a moment, you wonder why any other wine would be worth drinking. Exceptional slate minerality at the extremely long and almost perfectly balanced finish. Drink or hold. (9/23/21)” 97 Stuart Piggott
“The 2020er Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Kabinett was made from fruit picked at 83° Oechsle and was fermented down to fruity-styled levels of residual sugar (50 g/l). It offers an absolutely stunning nose made of residual scents from its spontaneous fermentation, white peach, citrusy fruits, white flowers, a hint of apricot blossom, and smoky elements. The wine is incredibly filigreed and finely chiseled on the subtly creamy and firmly racy palate and leaves a hugely complex feel of vineyard peach, a hint of apricot blossom, and chalky minerals in the playful finish. This is a truly gorgeous Kabinett in the making! 2030-2050” 94 MFW
