This is a particularly exciting one that I had encouraged him to bottle separately after tasting it in cask a few years ago, as its sense of substance and airy finesse was simply undeniable; he first did so in 2018. It is located directly below/facing the parcel of the Domaine de Courcel’s Epenots, from 95 year old vines that yielded 25hl/ha (quite low). In its sense of finesse, elegance, depth, and complexity between all food groups fruit/floral/mineral, this is simply a great bottle of overachieving, appellation transcending Pommard. Get some, and thank me later…..I asked for a third of the single barrel made, on the spot, something that only happens when it is clear as day that the sh!t is legit. It was also one of Bill Nanson’s personal favorites, along with the Rugiens….
