Description
I am big big big fan of these next two wines, as they are outstanding examples of their ilk, from very old vines, and just oozing with substance and class. One would be well served to get a smattering of everything from here on out, as they will serve as a survey in the many facets of deep substantial Pommard, as intense and varied as one will come across at any single address. The Charmots, from 65 year old vines, is the most powerful of these next three, black fruited, explosive, with a deep sense of old vine dry extract/mineral mass. What fun to have such beautiful if minsucule production wines to explore….This one was bottled exclusively in Magnum this year……“A clos but with no tractor access so everything has to be done by hand.
Starting just a little more open to start – again a very perfumed style. A little more intensity, a little more structural too – all by degrees! More Pommard than the supreme elegance of the last – but super wine and beautifully perfumed flavour. Quite saline finishing in this case.” Bill Nanson
