Description
We started our tasting with his sparkling wines, and I was really really really impressed. As I had mentioned prior, he has always made a lot of sparkling wines, as he loves them, and so makes what he likes. He learned a ton about great sparkling wine with his best friend, Daniel Vollenweider, who was like a walking encyclopedia of Champagne knowledge. This Pet-Nat (Pétillant-Naturel) of Riesling is bone dry, gorgeously pure, and as good of an intro to the category as I could hope to offer. As an everyday sparkling option, you should get a 6pk/case of this and delight in its versatile deliciousness. A little * awarded here.
“The Rurale 2020 Pétillant naturel, as it is referred to on the front label, with Lot Nr. 0733 was made from Riesling 2020 harvested between September 22 and October 14 in the two vineyards of Mullay and two vineyards in Goldlay. It was spontaneously fermented in old Fuder, before being bottled on November 9, 2021 (the date is provided on the back label), and finished its fermentation in bottle without any intervention and was released without disgorgement. It offers a superbly attractive and fresh notes of yeasty elements, aniseed and wild herbs, spices, lavender, rosemary, lime, and mint. It proves full of tension and nervy on the palate, where dynamic notes of lime, fresh herbs, and green apple make for a linear and focused feel. The mousse proves already very well integrated. There is ample mouthwatering tartness and spices in the after-taste, which give the after-taste a bone-dry and racy touch. This racy and light (with just 11% alcohol) natural Pétillant naturel is impressive. Now 2028” 90 Mosel Fine Wines
