2020 Mallard Aloxe Corton 1er Toppe au Vert

2020 Mallard Aloxe Corton 1er Toppe au Vert

$89.00

I have always described this little known 1er cru as a Baby Corton, which is demonstrates in clear-as-a-bell fashion this year. It has a sense of chiseled precision that is just plain outstanding; one couldn’t create a more prefect “archetypal” example if you tried……another little * awarded here.
“The 2016 Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru La Toppe au Vert offers vivid red cherries and black plums on the nose, quite focused yet maintaining refinement and poise. Blue fruits enter the fray with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a little ferrous at first, fine grip in the mouth with chalky tannins on the finish that feels long and satisfying. This is a worthy follow-up to the superb 2015.” 91-93 Neil Martin

“The super-fresh nose reflects notes of red and dark currant, cherry, raspberry and a pretty whiff of spice. The sleek, intense and vibrant middle weight flavors possess good delineation and a lovely minerality that really comes up on the youthfully austere, highly complex and beautifully persistent finish. This is presently tightly wound and will also require at least a few years of bottle age to further flesh out. 91/2028+” Allan Meadows ————–> “particularly outstanding for their respective appellations and especially merit your attention”.

“The 2020 Aloxe-Corton La Toppe Au Vert 1er Cru has a much more floral and quite opulent bouquet, a bit of an exhibitionist with lovely blue fruit laced with minerals, bursting from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, quite dense and concentrated towards the finish, though I feel it may eventually close down in bottle. Don’t be afraid to cellar this.” 92-94 Neil Martin

“The 2020 Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru La Toppe Au Vert is lovely, bursting with aromas of rose petals, sweet red berries, orange rind and exotic spices. Medium to full-bodied, lively and charming, with a succulent core of fruit, powdery tannins and a long, perfumed finish, it’s the most giving and immediate of the domaine’s Aloxe-Corton premier cru bottlings.” 91-93 William Kelley

“There is enough wood and menthol characters to mention on the attractively fresh and ripe aromas of red and black pinot fruit coulis that is laced with pretty violet wisps. There is again very good energy to the solid concentrated flavors that display fine length on the firm, serious and moderately austere but not really rustic finale. This too is going to require extended patience. (90-92)/2032+” Allen Meadows
