Description
Wow, this is a whopper of a wine in 2020, a testament to the intense vigor encouraged by JP’s farming practices and low target yields. You will be hard pressed to find a Chorey les Beaune with as dense of a fruit core as this…..it is not for those who are seeking delicacy or low alcohol. The aromatic intensity of both flowers and red fruits is intense!, then in the mouth, the same remarkably pure fruit tone is echoed, with the ripeness of the year refining its tannin to a level of textural sophistication/suave pleasure that transcends the appellation. To my taste, this is a transcendent example that all but the most stubborn label licking snobs will clearly recognize as an incredible incredible value, although it is for those looking for a full bodied Burgundy that is a far cry from the mold of those produced a generation ago. This is also likely the best entry ticket to see what JP’s farming practices yield, as the density, purity, and intensity like this are hallmarks of the house.
“Aromas of plums, wild berries, warm spices and cherries preface the 2020 Chorey-lès-Beaune Les Bons Ores, a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy wine that’s textural and giving, with a deep core of fruit and ripe, powdery tannins.” 90-92 William Kelley
