Description

(there are older vintages stretching back to 1998! available, please inquire if interested, a minimum of 3btls per vintage required, price range from $25/btl for the 2014/2011 vintages, to $39/btl back to 1998….) – This is the next step up the ladder, but with a markedly more “serious” character.  It is also made with 100% Nero D’Avola, but with much longer maceration and fermentation in stainless steel, before being moved into 500 and 225L casks where the wine is aged for at least a year before being aged in bottle for another two years to allow for greater harmonization of elements.   I expect more power here, of both fruit and tannin, if not as simply lovely as the Rossojbleo. From their website:
“Vigna Coste, located near Vigna Campo in Val Canzeria, is the largest vineyard in the municipality of Chiaramonte Gulfi, boasting around 4 hectares. The average altitude is 420 m above sea level, with east-west exposure and a slightly sloping terrain. The climate is temperate, with mild winters and dry summers, which promote a healthy maturation of the grapes. The planting density is 8,900 vines per hectare, with a bilateral spurred cordon training system. The production of grapes from non-irrigated vineyards does not exceed 85 quintals per hectare.”
“Dark ruby-red. Musky notes of ripe dark cherry, earth tones and cedar. Then brighter and more linear, with fresh flavors of black/red fruit complicated by herbs and earthy spices. Finishes juicy and long.” 91 Ian D’Agata for the 2016, NOT THE 2020 OFFERED HERE.
