Description

The lone white wine that I am including here (they also make a Carricante/Chardonnay blend), this native Sicilian variety typically is found in the zone around Mount Etna.  The 2016 was absolutely delicious, a wonderfully balanced wine that is as good as I could hope to offer as an example of the variety.  The wine is incredibly consistent….if you’ve never had a Carricante, this is about as good as it gets….
“The grapes used for the vinification of Carjcanti come from Vigna Campo, located in Chiaramonte Gulfi, in Val Canzeria. Vigna Campo covers about 1.5 hectares, with a planting density of 9,000 vines per hectare. The Carricante vines have been selected among the best in Etna. There is a temperate, Mediterranean climate which is characterised by significant temperature ranges. Calcareous, fairly clayey soil. Fan-shaped training method (modified sapling). The non-irrigated vineyard yields no more than 75 quintals per hectare.”
“Sweet almond paste, young peaches, hints of flint and smoke waft up from the 2018 Carjcanti. Its soft textures soothe, as a savory display of herbal-tinged orchard fruits and salty minerals washes across the palate. There’s a lovely cut of acidity here as this finishes with youthful tension, revealing hints of hazelnut and inner florals.”  91 Eric Guido of Vinous for the 2018, NOT THE 2020 OFFERED HERE
