A stalwart entrant in the category of most outrageous value of an heirloom grape variety that you have never heard of (quite a category, no?….. ;0 ), I have people who are now lifelong fans of this unique and exotically aromatic expression of Sauvignon Gris, a rarely seen pink berried mutation of Sauvignon blanc. This year’s is sure not to disappoint, Guilhem tells me, in a gourmand vein…..It has its typical aromatic display of a peacock’s tail of exotic fruits and fresh rose petals, with a bit of clementine zest. Guilhem echoes that it is rich but with zero sense of heaviness, with seamlessly integrated acidity giving shape. For the surprisingly sizeable fan club out there, this will ring that familiar unique bell and then some…if you’ve not yet tried it, check it out! Its surprising and unique charms will not be lost on you….! I ANTICIPATE THIS TO BE PARTICULARLY OUTSTANDING THIS YEAR!! THIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN A PET FAVORITE AND THEN SOME…..SO UNIQUE AND COMPLEX…..
“The 2018 Saint-Bris Corps de Garde has some of the most expressive and open aromatics of Goisot’s 2018s, featuring white peach, grapefruit, kiwi fruit and light fumé scents. The palate is beautifully balanced, with a waxy texture, expressing the Sauvignon Gris to full effect on its stem ginger and rhubarb-tinged finish. Seductive, but I would love to revisit it with bottle age.” 93 Neil Martin for the 2018, NOT THE 2020 OFFERED HERE
