Description

From the poorest/stoniest soils of the trio, of almost pure limestone rock, this one always takes my personal pet favorite for its strong stony sense of minerality.  This year’s falls right in line with what one would expect, with an additional level of accessibility vs its typically more closed/tight mineral coil.  This was the lowest yielding of the 2019 wines, and everything is dialed up in its concentration, fruit and dry extract/minerality alike.  Sounds good to me……
“The 2018 Bourgogne-Côtes d’Auxerre Gueules de Loup comes from vines on Portlandian limestone. Aged in 20% new oak, it has a detailed bouquet of Golden Delicious apple, white tea and light almond; subtle tropical scents become more prominent with time. The taut, fresh palate is very well balanced with a fine degree of acidity, welcome spiciness and a little grilled walnut and smoke emerging toward the finish. Superb.” 92 Neil Martin for the 2018, NOT THE 2020 OFFERED HERE
