Description

As we climb the totem pole in his Chardonnay lineup, things get pretty serious, pretty fast.  This wine is yet another value hound’s delight, as it has a tremendous track record for ageing, and is somewhat untouchable on the value front.  Like all of the 2019 Chardonnay wines, this hovers right around 14% alc, and combines a surprising sense of both fruit concentration and acidity concentration, a recurring hallmark of the vintage throughout Burgundy/Chablis.  Guilhem describes the fruit tone as yellow fruits, with a light mineral reductiveness.  He used fruit descriptors like fresh mirabelle plum and quince.  Steady as ever, ring the value hound bell……
“The 2018 Bourgogne-Côtes d’Auxerre Corps de Garde Blanc has a fresh peach skin and grapefruit bouquet, touches of jasmine and melted wax developing with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a waxy texture, judicious touches of dill and sage, and a hint of white chocolate and toffee apple toward the well-defined finish. Excellent. Readers should note that this cuvée could not be produced in 2019.” 91 Neil Martin for the 2018, NOT THE 2020 OFFERED HERE.
