This is a cool one, from a half hectare monopole vineyard that is lumped together under the umbrella Fremiets appellation, but is a small Clos just off of the village. It sounds like a knockout and quintessential Volnay in character……Allen’s note in particular sounds delightful….
“(a .52 ha monopole). An ultra-fresh and beautifully elegant nose combines notes of airy and cool essence of red cherry, anise and a whiff of exotic tea. The detailed and more obviously mineral-driven medium weight flavors possess a gorgeously refined mouthfeel thanks to the incredibly fine-grained tannins supporting the youthfully austere yet supple finale. Classic Volnay. (90-93)/2026+” Allen Meadows
“The 2020 Volnay Clos de la Rougeotte 1er Cru is monopole and part of Fremiets, but tends to produce smoother wines according to Marc-Olivier Buffet. There is fine transparency on the nose: vivid red cherries and crushed strawberry aromas. The palate is harmonious with silky tannins, modest depth with a pliant tart finish. Very fine.” 90-92 Neil Martin
