Planted just beside Thomas Bouley’s reference point worthy Carelle, this is one of the darker fruited wines in the stable. Once again, the balance sounds terrific, between fruit, floral, and mineral elements, a hallmark of Marc-Olivier’s style…..
“A more deeply pitched nose offers up its layered array of plum, dark currant, earth and a plethora of discreet spice nuances. The elegant, pure and lightly stony middle weight flavors also possess a highly refined mouthfeel before culminating in a youthfully austere and sneaky long finish. This too is really lovely. (90-92)/2027+” Allen Meadows
“The 2020 Volnay Carelle Sous La Chapelle 1er Cru has slightly darker fruit, cranberry and touches of blackcurrant, very well defined with nicely integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip, lightly spiced with a gentle grip on the saline finish. Good potential.” 91-93 Neil Martin
