Description

For as much as they play down the importance of off-dry wines, Daniel is plain dialed in to what it takes to make outstanding Kabinett, as his performace of the last few years can attest to. This is taken as their first picking in the Heerkretz, which is part of the recipe of what it takes to make exceptional kabinett: a Grand cru terroir, and early picking. I am psyched. Get some, and thank me later……Technical stats (makes my mouth water just looking at numbahs like that!): 9.4 g/L acidity, 45 g/L RS, 9% alcohol. TMI geeky info: at 45 g/L residual sugar, the exact same amount as Richter’s throwback style Juffer Fass 4, we have old school Kabi sugar levels, with an electric level of acidity……
“Kiwi, apple and lime dominate the nose as well as the buoyant, subtly glossy palate, which seems to hide some of the wine’s analytically high acidity. There is an uncanny combination here of tangy invigoration with textural caress, and undertones of stone and alkali lend considerable intrigue. The aforementioned acidity asserts itself with invigorating brightness on an incisively penetrating, consummately refreshing and downright exhilarating finish. Even if he bottles only this one relevant wine, it looks increasingly safe to mention Wagner alongside Gillot, Schätzel and Keller as among those Rheinhessen growers who have in short order brilliantly mastered the art of Kabinett.” 92 David Schildknecht for the 2017, NOT THE 2019 OFFERED HERE
