This is taken from the oldest portion of the Heerkretz which informs the GG, taken from the first pass at that vineyard. The ’17 is more marked by botrtis spiciness than the ’19, but damn was this tasty when I tried it at the winery. They said that they struggle to find clients for such wines, which is nuts to me, as the stuff is the nectar of the gods, in 500ml no less……..
“In comparison with its Höllberg counterpart, this Heerkretz Auslese is marginally more predictable as well as more marked by botrytis. But it is also ravishing. Pear, quince and white peach are initially decidedly confitured. Pungently wreathed with buddleia on the nose, their palate presence is accompanied by a silken feel, a hint of oiliness and a slick of honey. An unexpected onrush of fresh fruit gives the lingering finish an admirable balance between richness and refreshment. This misses quite the energy, brightness or saliva-inducement of the corresponding Höllberg, but who knows what enhanced enticements may await those who cellar it.” 93 David Schildknecht for the 2017, NOT THE 2019 OFFERED HERE
This year’s has little to no botrytis, which promises to be electrified filigree Heerkretz yum yum juice and then some. Again, it boggles my mind that they struggle to commercialize such nectar of the gods, as the price is crazy fair for such nectar of the gods……Technical stats: 9g/L acidity, 117 g/L RS, 7.5% alcohol.
