Description
This is a new village level cuvée made to showcase the limestone dominant vineyards, notably sourced from their 1er and Grand cru Steinacker and Saumagen vineyards in Kallstadt. Sounds like my cup of tea and then some, as I am a limestone rockhead at heart. Descriptors from Reinhardt like, “crystalline, very fresh and vibrating, mineral, tensioned, straight and persistently salty Riesling with great finesse and pure terroir expression” sound fantastic…..a very good value play here.
“Predominantly from the Saumagen and the Steinacker crus and partly vinified in halbstücks, the 2019 Kallstadt Riesling Trocken Vom Kalkfels offers an intensely aromatic, precise and juicy, beautifully clear, refined and reductive bouquet of ripe and concentrated stone fruits intermixed with characteristic flinty aromas of broken stones. Pure and tight on the palate, this is a crystalline, very fresh and vibrating, mineral, tensioned, straight and persistently salty Riesling with great finesse and pure terroir expression. It is highly stimulating, with refreshing lemon aromas. This will be bottled in June or July this year and released in September. Tasted at the domain in March and a month later again in Bremen in April 2020.” 91-92 Stephan Reinhardt
