A first time entrant, the guys at Marchand-Tawse have a knack for sniffing out exceptional, overperforming/undervalued sites that are well farmed. Murgers has long been a pet favorite of mine due to its performance in the Hudelot Noëllat range, sitting high on the hillside in northern Nuits, where things take on a decidedly Vosnean bent. Looking at Neil’s note, and even moreso Jasper Morris’, it seems like we have another winner winner chicken dinner…….
“The maiden 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Meurgers 1er Cru is 80% whole bunch. It has a lovely bouquet of brambly red berry fruit mixed with sous-bois and light truffle aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins, fresh and vibrant, displaying impressive mineralité toward the poised finish. This should age well over the next 15–20 years.” 92-94 Neil Martin
“80% whole bunch and 50% new oak. Here’s a Nuits-St-Georges which really works in 2019: Brilliant ripe purple colour, with a really classy nose. Ripe, but nicely managed. Here the fruit absolutely fills the mouth from start to finish. Good tension at the back with just the right acidity.” 93-95 Jasper Morris FIVE STAR WINE
