This is a particularly fascinating upper slope delight, from 20ish year old Morey vines that sit high on the hill above the Clos de Tart. This has an even airier/chalkier aromatic profile, that leads to a moderately rich body of very good purity, and an even stronger sense of mineral driven tension and grip. This is a great discovery of a wine for me! Only 1.5 barrels or 40 cases made in ’16….

Description

This is a particularly fascinating upper slope delight, from 20ish year old Morey vines that sit high on the hill above the Clos de Tart. This has an even airier/chalkier aromatic profile, that leads to a moderately rich body of very good purity, and an even stronger sense of mineral driven tension and grip. This continues its case as an example that refutes the argument that there are no worthy Côtes de Nuits white wines….

“Pretty pale primrose, a little touch of oak which sits well with the concentration of fruit. An attractive body of fresh peachy fruit, but retaining freshness too. Precision and intensity, picked at the perfect date – they used to go later here and found the wine could become heavy. Tasted: November 2020” 89-92 Jasper Morris

“Aromas of crisp green orchard fruit, fresh mint and white flowers introduce the 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis La Bidaude, a cuvée produced from Chardonnay growing high above the Clos des Lambrays. Medium to full-bodied, round and enveloping, it’s fleshy but fresh, with a more sumptuous, giving profile than the Nuits-Saint-Georges.” 88-90 William Kelley
