2019 Goisot St Bris Corps de Garde Fié Gris

2019 Goisot St Bris Corps de Garde Fié Gris

This is a very cool wine, from old vine Fié Gris, a unique and highly aromatic mutation of Sauvignon blanc. In good years, this is a fascinating and remarkable wine that has earned more than a few fans from the vintages that I last brought in (2009-2011). Per Neil’s note, this 2016 hails from only one of the three vineyard sites than usual, due to hail…..
“The 2016 Saint-Bris Corps de Garde comes from one of three vineyards that usually comprise this particular cuvée, only the parcel toward Irancy having been spared by hail. The captivating, menthol-scented bouquet unfurls in the glass, accompanied by scents of broom and wild fennel – something almost Provençal in personality. The well-balanced palate shows a fine line of acidity and starts taut and linear but fans out in the final third with a saline/spicy finish that perhaps just misses the persistence of Goisot’s best vintages of this cuvée.” 89 Neil Martin
