As we step into what I consider the 1er cru tier, this is shockingly intense. It has a sense of serious gras (fat) that is then positively electric in its dynamic interplay of intense levels of dry extract and animating acidity, finishing very verrrry verrrrrry long…..to me this is class in a glass and then some. Only 1.5 barrels made, roughly 40 cases for the world. A little * awarded here.
“Aromas of citrus oil, pear, vanilla pod and nutmeg preface the 2019 Marsannay Clos du Roy Blanc, a medium to full-bodied, layered and precise wine that’s concentrated and tightly wound, with tangy acids and chalky structure. This derives from the upper part of the Clos du Roy, where the calcium-rich marls are suited to Chardonnay.” 91-93 William Kelley
