From a massive 1.30 hectare parcel in the heart of les Charmes, principally from older 60-70 year old vines with marginally less topsoil than les Plantes, on zee motherock. This is somewhat of a flagship for the estate, and a great one at that. Classic les Charmes is always both rich, broad, yet remarkably lithe with that mineral underpinning animating it all with driving depth. “”(from a 1.15 ha parcel; 27% whole clusters). Here the wood is a bit more prominent though by no means invasive to the nicely spicy nose of mostly dark currant and poached plum nuances. The palate impression of the bigger medium-bodied flavors is surprisingly mineral-driven with fine backend energy on the dusty, compact and equally serious finale that isn’t quite as complex, at least not at present.
