Description

This, their entry level red wine, is a nod to both the 12 grape variety field blends that are so traditional in the area, as well as the unique style of traditional “maggiorina” style trellising most often used with Croatina. (click Maggiorina for a brief video Christoph made to illustrate). Comprised of principally Croatina, with dollops of other varieties from the Montalbano-Castello vineyards which were planted over 100 years ago, it also includes some fruit from the Santino Oldrati and Bruno Duella vineyards that lie beneath the estate’s Meridiana vineyard. This is a perennial sensational value play bursting with character that should have case buy house wine written all over it……

““Maggiorina”, a somewhat lighter wine, is produced from grapes grown in old “Maggiorina” vineyards (25 different small fields). These fields are planted mixing 12 different varieties of grapes (mostly Nebbiolo and Croatina but even some white and aromatic grapes) to give a real field blend. The wine is released after one year of aging in stainless steel tanks, and has fresh fruit, as well as the characteristic mineral and spicy taste. A wine that should be enjoyed in the first two years after harvesting.” -Christoph

“The 2018 Maggiorina is fresh, vibrant and perfumed. Bright red cherry fruit and a whole range of floral and savory notes give the wine its striking aromatic presence. Medium in body and vibrant, the 2018 has a ton of energy as well as personality, with a certain wildness that is quite appealing.” 92 Antonio Galloni
