Description
This is just the third vintage of their gastronomic rendition of Petite Arvine, from the estate’s oldest vines, aged in large Austrian oak vessels, with longer elevage. It still has the tonic/tensioned/aromatic elements of Petite Arvine, but with a smoother and subtler sense of attack. Elio refers to this as a gastronomy wine vs the regular Petite Arvine’s all-purpose versatility (aperitif, with food, without….). Sounds good to me…..
“A pure expression of Petite Arvine, the 2016 VallĂ©e d’Aoste Nuances represents a special selection of fruit for small bottle production (only 2,500 bottles were made in this vintage). Unlike the base Petite Arvine that I tasted at the same time, this wine is not as bright, loud or tonic. Instead, this wine is aged in large oak cask for one year, and the bouquet is measured and carefully balanced as a result. This is a steady and sophisticated white wine that offers beautiful mineral and flinty complexity with nectarine and preserved lemon. This unique wine should evolve and take on more volume over the next five years of bottle aging.” 93 Monica Larner for the 2016, NOT THE 2018 OFFERED HERE
