From a massive 1.30 hectare parcel in the heart of les Charmes, principally from older 60-70 year old vines with marginally less topsoil than les Plantes, on zee motherock. This is somewhat of a flagship for the estate, and a great one at that. Classic les Charmes is always both rich, broad, yet remarkably lithe with that mineral underpinning animating it all with driving depth. This is Classic Complete Charmes, and got a little star in the June session. (my impression of the 2014, NOT THE 2018 OFFERED HERE)
“The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru offers a mixture of red and black fruit on the nose, scents of wild hedgerow and potpourri emerging with aeration and displaying impressive transparency. The 40% whole bunch is nicely enmeshed both on the nose and on the palate, which is framed by fine tannins that lend this Les Charmes a lovely symmetry and poise. It might need a little more matière on the finish, but otherwise this is a finely crafted Chambolle.” 92-94 Neil Martin
