As we get into the Mercurey 1er crus, this is the heart of the production, as he has six hectares in Mercurey, 80% of which is 1er cru. The Croichots is a 30 year old S/SE facing vineyard of decomposed limestone marne, and limestone. In the vineyard, there is a vein of particularly limestone rich marne that is quite white in color, and that is where his vines are located. This is quite rich and fine at the same time, with an even greater sense of charm than the Montagny. Bruno calls this one “le charmeur”. This is more on the white florals and white fruits than the Montagny, a clear result of the limestone presence of the vineyard. This is undeniably charming and classy.
“The 2017 Mercurey 1er Cru Les Croichots Blanc is showing very well, unfurling in the glass with aromas of crisp green orchard fruit, lime and wet stones. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with excellent concentration, racy acids and a long, mineral finish. While it’s still somewhat reserved after its recent bottling, this is a supremely elegant, fine-boned Mercurey white in the making.” 92 William Kelley
