2017 Barraud Macon Vergisson la Roche

2017 Barraud Macon Vergisson la Roche

Description

My note: I didn’t get to taste this, and it isn’t because it is not good….quite the contrary. This is regularly one of the greatest value wines in Burgundy for its sense of serious calcaire stuffing, so much so that the Barraud’s regularly have far greater demand than wine to sell. From vines grown on the mother rock above the Pouilly Fuissé appellation limit, just above their parcel of PF la Roche. Based on how awesome the Pouilly Fuissé la Roche is, I expect this one to fall right in line as a strength of the vintage, as always. When I asked Daniel how this years’ MV la Roche turned out, he just smiled and said, “Oui oui, c’est très bon”……

“(this vineyard abuts the Pouilly-Fuissé vineyard of La Roche, reviewed below). This is aromatically quite similar to the Mâcon-Fuissé though the floral component is even more pronounced. There is good mid-palate density to the delicious and polished medium weight flavors that offer a hint of salinity on the sneaky long finish that is both clean and dry. This has better underlying material but no better complexity, which is not usually the case. (87-89)/2020+” Allan Meadows
