From a massive 1.30 hectare parcel in the heart of les Charmes, principally from older 60-70 year old vines with marginally less topsoil than les Plantes, on zee motherock. This is somewhat of a flagship for the estate, and a great one at that. Classic les Charmes is always both rich, broad, yet remarkably lithe with that mineral underpinning animating it all with driving depth. This is Classic Complete Charmes, and got a little star in the June session.
“(from a 1.15 ha parcel). Soft wood frames a fresh and cool blend of red cherry, spice, lavender and rose petal. The finer and more seductively textured flavors possess a caressing mouthfeel though less minerality yet the moderately austere, saline and bitter cherry suffused finish immediately tightens up to confirm that this too is going to require extended patience. Good stuff and worth a look. 92/2027+” 92 Allan Meadows ————> thingy, meaning, “particularly outstanding for their respective appellations and especially merit your attention”.
“The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru, containing 10% whole bunches, has an expressive, well-defined bouquet, the fruit a little darker than other Premier Crus from the domaine and hints of marmalade and quince surfacing with aeration. The taut, focused palate is quite effervescent on the entry, with a fine thread of acidity, but shows commendable depth on the orange zest and citrus-like finish. Great potential here.” 91-93 Neil Martin
