“High-toned aromas of almond extract, herbal essences, quince and mirabelle in fresh and distilled form prepare the ground for a creamy, subtly oily, expansive yet in no way heavy midpalate memorably full of fruit and intensely redolent of cooling green herbs. The prodigious finish, while preserving all of the aforementioned richness, introduces brightly juicy fresh lime and conveys an unexpected sense of lift for a wine of at least 13% alcohol. Stony underpinnings serve to set off its striking purity and generosity of fruit without engendering any sense of austerity. This beauty could serve as Exhibit A in the case for complexity in “Grand Cru” dry Riesling being entirely compatible with irresistible drinkability (Trinkfluss). I last tasted it from its relatively new Austrian oak cask shortly before an August 2017 bottling and can wholeheartedly agree with Kaufmann’s characterization of it as “super-elegant.” 94-95 David Schildknecht
