The second of the Forster Erste Lagen is from fine sandy soils on the southern side of town, roughly at the same height on the hill as the Grösse Gewächse. This one is an all around crowd pleaser, open knit, easy, and inviting. Jürgen referred to this as a “baby Ungeheuer”, I suppose for its proximity (the two vineyards touch) moreso than the wine’s character. My note: “Fruitier aromatics, medium weight. Good sense of finesse and harmony. A crowd pleaser.” The Mosbacher’s brief description: “Finely balanced and juicy.” 12.5% alcohol. As an easy peasy intro to Forst and the Mittelhaardt in general, lovely lovely.
