The spicy red fruited charm, delicacy, and grace of this wine had me in audible fits of oohs and aahs, an absolute stunner that would plain shock and amaze tasters in a blind Chambolle Musigny tasting. “A wine of lace and grace”, as Allan puts it below. Please heed my call when I say that this is a wine that exhibits the kind of painfully pretty architecture that only exists in Burgundy, and that if you have never experienced quite what i’m talking about, this will very clearly illustrate exactly what i’m talking about…..I asked for mags on the spot…..This is a heart swooning delight……obviously, a little * awarded here; in fact, to my personal sensibilities, i’d give this several stars and some hearts to boot…!!! And as an aside, the name “les Joyeuses” (meaning the Joyful ones) originates from the fact that lovers would steal away to the secluded portion of the hillside here, a former quarry, and get “joyful” together…..!!!! The caressing charm of this wine’s personality is thus most appropriately named…..!!!
“The 2016 Ladoix 1Er Cru les Joyeuses has an open and expressive bouquet that is more floral than its peers, lovely wilted rose scents developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, feminine and understated, but there is real length and precision here. It is one of the best wines that I have tasted from the domaine from this vineyard.” 90-92 Neil Martin
“Notably more elegant, airy and cool aromas of essence of spiced cherry and lavender give way to refined, pure and lacy middle weight flavors that possess plenty of punch and a discreet minerality that carries over to the linear, balanced and delineated finish. A wine of lace and grace that is textbook Joyeuses. (89-91)/2022+” Allan Meadows
