2016 Fabrice Vigot Nuits St Georges villages Vieilles Vignes

From three parcels, totalling roughly .6 hectares: les Herbeux, les Tuyeaux, and (from the Gibourg sisters) les Bas de Combe. From the northern NSG lieu dits of les Herbues (Vigot owned), les Tuyeaux, and the superbly placed, Vosne bordering Bas de Combe (which comprises 100% of the Sisters’ Nuits Saint Georges villages VV bottling, roughly 2/7ths of the Vigot blend), this was the first wine presented last week, immediately assuaging my November concerns about anything austere/tight/ungiving. With what can only be called spot on typicity, this presented the tell tale hallmarks of northern Nuits Saint Georges, of a blend of Vosnean florals and charm with a kiss of Nuits savory/earthy tones, all delivered with a sense of succulence and fully ripened tannin that was a pure delight. There is also a sense of vibrant poise and éclat de fruit that spoke to me both of the virtues of the vintage as well as the lack of any additional sulfur at bottling. This set the tone for all of the wines that followed, and like its 2016 stable mates, can only be called a resounding success……
